From 1993 he played with the Seattle Supersonics and was the first European to be selected (in 1993 and 1995) to play the traditional All-Star game. In 1996 Detlef Schrempf became the first German player to play in the final of the NBA, in which the Seattle Supersonics lost 2-4 against the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan. In 1997 he made it to the quarterfinals of the play-offs (losing 3-4 against the Houston Rockets).
